The dynamism of business creation is an important economic indicator that should be followed and analysed during each monthly assessment carried out by INSEE. The latest balance sheet\/cumulation at the end of June 2013 shows the following trends:<\/span><\/p>\n

Decline in business start-ups in the first half of 2013<\/strong><\/span> compared to the first half of 2012: - 3.7%<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The total number of creations was 281,770 at the end of H1 2013, compared to 292,636 at the end of H1 2012. This is the weakest first half in 5 years<\/span>This has been the case since the introduction of the auto-entrepreneur status.<\/span><\/p>\n

This decline in overall creation is explained by the fall in the number of creations under the status of auto-entrepreneur (-11.8%)<\/span><\/strong>,<\/span><\/p>\n

This fall is compensated by a reverse movement: thesignificant increase in the number of start-ups under the sole proprietorship regime (+23.7%)<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We therefore observe in the figures a transfer from the auto-entrepreneur status to the sole proprietorship regime.<\/span><\/p>\n

This downward trend in the status of auto-entrepreneur can no doubt be explained by the debates and questioning of certain elements of this system over the last few months. Popular with the French at the time of its launch in January 2009 (320,000 creations in the first year, 350,000 the following year), the questioning of the status seems to have clearly created a downward movement: this first half of 2013 is the lowest first half of the year since the beginning for the creation of auto-entreprises (144,168 creations).<\/span><\/div>\n

Although more businesses have always been created in the form of the auto-entrepreneur since the introduction of this status (55% of the total number of creations on average), we have observed a clear convergence of the two curves since the beginning of 2013, and we are now at around 50\/50 between auto-entrepreneurs and the other forms of creation.<\/span><\/div>\n
